94 grand am is obd 1 or 2

3.1 liter- Im trying to find a way to retrieve codes without the use of a scanner or code reader. Is there a way to "jump some pins" or use the ignition switch( by cycling it on/off) to initiate a sequence of flashes from the service engine light. On some vehicles this is one method of determining a paticular fault that coresponds to the number of flashes you get on the dash.
When sitting in the drivers seat and looking down at the OBD port i see 12 spaces for pins yet only three are used. They are configured on the far right side of the port one pin above two.
thanks for your interest
Paul.
