Durango is loud and I think the engine is blown

I will admit my husband probably didn't get the oil changed in a while and he checked it friday and it was low so he put some oil in the truck and it was cheap oil. Today he goes to work and he comes back home and the truck is loud. it's not a ticking sound yet but it's loud. He took it up to the shop and they said the engine is gone. Can he do something to stop this like flush the bad oil out of the car of something. I hate to get a new engine we have like a year left to pay on the truck. it's a 2000 durango and the check engine light has been on for a while.

Ouch! Unfortunately, you're saying all the wrong things to give us hope that this is some easy fix ("haven't changed oil in a while", "checked it and it was low", "the check engine light has been on for awhile") ! !
Ask the shop why they said what they did about the engine being shot. Did they check compression? Did they run any codes? Did they stethoscope and diagnose bad main bearings or rod bearings?

Sorry, but I'm not hopeful at this point.

Good luck and let us know what happens.

Bad muffler?

Did they check the exhast system. Loudness would lead me to check the muffler first, not the motor. Yes you can flush out the bad oil and replace it. The check engine light is a bad thing, the low oil is not as bad and using cheap oil is just being cheap.

Sounds to me the shop just wants to make a buck off you. Get a second or even third opinion.

What other symptoms besides being " loud' are there?

Lisa
