Question New to the world of upgrades

I will be acquiring a 95 celica liftback ST, and I was wondering what all would be legal in the way of an engine swap for california. I have a source on a celica GTR engine, however I'm not sure if it is new enough to be legal or if they stopped making those in 1994. Any help as to what my options are for possible complete swaps and also any information or links as to the heritage of the Celica GTR Engine would be helpful.

Also, if the GTR engine won't work, is it possible to swap out for a 3S-GTE?

Re: New to the world of upgrades

tehres no such thign as a celica gtr much less a celica gtr engine.....

its not legal to do any kind of vehicle modification according to california law, not even getting intake, much less an engine swap...youll never pass smog or be able to register with it

and its illegal to swap out the motor in any state period...and you wont pass smog with a jdm engine in any other state due to no egr valve

Re: New to the world of upgrades

He probably got an australian link, I think they may call the gts the gtr. I am not positive. Yeah, Cali sucks for all that. You might as well stick with the engine you have now. They are easy to get as fast as the GT. Plus the GT has little to no aftermarket support. In cali I don't think you can do much of anything. Sorry, but good luck with that.

Re: New to the world of upgrades

yea thats the gayest law ever all theese old muscle car people can slam in big blocks and blowers and shit. and we get in trouble for a freakin intake. well i dont but many do. yea cali is the worst. i guess you could do an intake, headers, and exaust and put the stock parts back on if u need to pass smog youll still have a decently fast car if you do that or you could do a swap and stay away from the popos.

WTF? That isn't fair. Why can't this country be better, or at least have the west coast be a little more lenient. In some states the interstates let you do 75. In oregon it is 65 at the fastest.

I'd love to know where that highway is. We can stay in the left lane, you are thinkin WA. They won't let you stay in the left lane. Here people do it all the time and make me mad becauze I must go slow.

Thats what I always though until i was browing an import website. The GTR is actually the JDM varient of the SX (I think in the US its called the GT). Anyways its the JDM non-turbo FWD Celica.

Here is a link to one of them that has been sold.

http://www.prestigemotorsport.com.au...p?StockID=2869

They just have a few more options in them than the AUS spec Celicas thats all.

Re: New to the world of upgrades

why cant they give us in america all the good names? like id much rather have gt-4 than all track or gt-r instead of gt-s

and btw thats a WEIRD lookin 5sfe in that car, the valve conver is in the F head configuration but look at the runners on the intake manifold, there almost stright across instead of sloping like they do here

also weird how its a 1989 and its the 90+ here body style

its amazing how diffrent 2 cars can be coming form the same factory

All the Japanese models were released in Japan a year earlier than anywhere else. Note my GT4 is an 89 but the same shape.....

I like that engine. The intake is straight and everything just looks cool!
