What fuel pressure is OK?

I am over my head on this one. I am working on a Lincoln for and elderly lady. She bought it and I am trying to get it on the road for her. It has sat for 3 years but was started every 2-3 weeks as the previous owner stated. Ran terrible. I drained the gas and put fresh. New fuel filter, injectors, plugs. Runs a bit better but not good enough to drive. I borrowed a fuel pressure gauge and have 38-40 psi fuel pressure. This is a 1996 TownCar with the 4.6L and 91 K miles. Help??? What next to try if fuel pressure is fine.

If it's running bad it's also throwing a "Check Engine" light on the dash.

Connect an OBDII scanner and read the error codes, this will give you the failing components.

FUEL PRESSURE SPECIFICATIONS
Description-----------------Specification

Engine Running--------------30-45 psi
----------------------------210-310 kPa

Key On Engine Off-----------35-40 psi
----------------------------240-280 kPa

Check engine light was on. EGR low vaccum. I reset the computer and it hasn't come back on. I think maybe one of the coils may be bad and only running on 4. Is there any test proceedures on them? I was just going to pull the wires off and then start it. If one side was dead it will run the same or not run at all. Any other things to try?? EGR was removed and checked. Very little carbon build up and it sealed fine. Thanks so much for your response.

OK, here's the deal with that.

After you reset the system, you need to drive the car for 20 minutes or more to get the system to "re-learn" normal operating conditions.

It WILL run like a piece of crap for the first 10 miles or so.

IF there were coil problems, you'd be getting OBD codes on those too.

Re: What fuel pressure is OK?

I drove it all around and no real improvement. I verified the plug wires are all going to the right plugs. Any other things I can try? The guy who sold it to the lady now doesn't have the money to give back to her and I got $175 into it myself. HELP????

Re: What fuel pressure is OK?

My brother-in-law came over and checked it out. Found out only running on 4 cylinders. Checked compression on #4 and found nothing. Took valve cover off and found a rocker arm laying on top the head. Basically was sold a junk so I have decided to part it out for the lady. Know anyone needing a near perfect black interior or body parts???
