4wd s10, auto or manual?

well im looking at a late 80's s10 and am wondering what would be better for daily driving and running in mud and offroad, a manual or automatic transmission.

also how strong is the stock s10 automatic? (would someone jsut starting to use a manual transmission be able to master the manual transmission easily?)

also should i go with the 4.3 v6 or the straight 4? (for everyday driving and 4 wheeling on the weekends)

Re: 4wd s10, auto or manual?

Auto is best for most driving, although I would prefer standard.
The auto's are pretty strong, and rarely wear out.
The best way to learn a standard is with a $500.00 beater, and then sell it afterwords for $600.00
Go with the 4.3L, and if you get a 4 banger avoid the 2.2L
Also avoid the 2.8L V6
