went for alignment, came out with a 700 estimate

so i go to the firestone near me, where a year ago i bought a lifetime alignment for 100.00. well i drop the car off around 10 in the morning, and i get a phone call saying that they couldnt not do the alignment, and that i needed 700 in front end work. i went to the shop and he told me i needed.. inner and outter tie rods on both sides and an idler arm. im not a mechanic but needless to say i told him to go pull that shit on someone else because i know how much work is involved with those jobs. i went home and checked my tierods. i only needed the outter on both sides and the idler arm was shot. i go to advance, bought the part for 68, and hour and half later i was done. they guy told me it was going to be 4 hours labor with close to 350 in parts, bunch of cut throats if you ask me... but i still have to go in for my alignment

Want to hear another funny one... he hee...

Had my ball joints done a few months ago (8 approx.) was told that I would need somethign done to the linkage or something (total newbie, didn't know better, ) said, okay, approox how much? they said around $200, okay I said, be back in a afew months to get it looked at.
Went back and got my new front end done (not by choice) and they said, you need your linkage thingy changed, I said sure, held up my Chilton book, I can do it now, I checked, then they siad, well it's a $20 part and about $30 labour, so I said, sure you didn't mean the $200 last time? grrrrrrrr...

Tell them next time they try to screw someone....make sure that it is someone dumber than they are.....if they can find someone that dumb.

I would also report it to their corporate office, or if it is a franchise report it to Firestone. If it is a franchise, most respectible companies will pull their franchise license, to prevent having their name ruined. Firestone is struggling with PR right now after all the problems a few years ago.

Re: went for alignment, came out with a 700 estimate

just got back from firestone before. i asked them to see the manager, well it just so happened that the regional manager was there today. we went into the office where i explanied to him what happened the other day to me. how they tried to rip me off probably because i was a kid and thought i didnt have any knowledge of cars, blah blah blah. needless to say i told him that it was bullcrap. he said that he will be looking into it, and to make me happy he gave me 10 free oil changes. so i took them and left, not likely that i will be going there to get my oil changed anyways.
