Door switch module??I need serious help.

Ok..Ive been reading thru these forums like crazy and have found everything i need, except for one thing..How in the world do i get to the door switch module(i think thats what its called)so when i lift up on the door handle my lights come on?I took the door panel off and i think i see it,theres wires that plug into it? But how do i replace it?iI can barely get to it..But then again i might not even have the right thing.Right now i had to pull the fuse because the lights just stay on and wont go out. Then i tried putting the fuse back in and just taking the bulbs out so i have my radio but that didnt work cuz my footwell lights only go out when they want to..Some one please help me on instructions on how to get to it and if thats not it what else could it be,i see possible chime module?I love this car and need interior lights..A huge thanks to anyone who replies with some help..Girl who loves cars! : )

Sounds like the dimmer module. When you pull the door handle with the door locked the lights come on, and when you close the door the lights dim gradually, right? It's the module that controls the interior lighting, one of the few parts that I have not had to replace as of yet. As far as I know its on the driver's side under the dash. It's shown on the wiring diagram for the car with 5 or 6 wires coming out of it. Anyone else out there done one of these?

If its an inexpensive part try replacing it, electronics do eventually wear out, some things are more durable than others. If its an expensive part, try one from a wreck, see if that works. If you are still having a problem, its probably one of the door switches. The rear switches on 4 door cars are the pin type switches and are fairly easy to replace. On the front doors the switches are located in the latch mechanism which requires some disassembly of the door. It's held in place by 3 torx screws, and they are in very tight. You would also have to disconnect the outside door handle, the inside door handle, the locks both inside and outside, and the power lock module if you have power locks. I have 240k miles on my 95 gt, and I have never replaced one of them, but its possible that its bad.. Hope this helps.

did you here the chime work before u took to removeing it? the chime can be bad without smelling burnt. But I think ur problem is in the door switch inside the door latch as skibum1111 said. This is strange I have never seen the chime or door/dim switch fail where the lights stay on. Does that door shut all the way? maybe if u get lucky it just needs an adjustment. \,,/

Re: Door switch module??I need serious help.

Thanks alot guys, this help a bunch!! Yeah my doors close all the way(2 door)And yes i was hearing the chime before i took it out,i went with this cuz this was the most obvious thing it could be that i was reading about, then i changed the dimmer switch thats next to the door, that didnt work,it wont even turn my lights on or off..This is the most weird thing, and i was hoping it wasnt the door latch thing, but then again ive heard noone has ever had to replace that thing. And yes i can get that at a junk yard, dealer wants to much for it ; ( If anyone else has any input it will be appreciated..as for now i will proceed at the junk yard for the chime module then if not the door latch thing is next..Huge thanks : )
