I have a 1991 Olds cutlass calais with the quad 4 engine in it. The other day I started having a problem with it, when i was stopped and then went to go, say at a stop light, it acted like it was in neutral but then would catch and go fine until i stopped again. This only happens once the car is warmed up. I will even notice it when i go over a speed bump...if i do it like you would in a normal car, it acts like it is in neutral then engages, but if i let it " roll" alittle after i go over it, it engages no problem. Also, looking under the car i noticed a small puddle of fluid, sure enough tranny fluid, it is leaking from the tranny pan, could the gasket be bad and making all this problems? I have only had the car since April and i know we have not had any problems with it. this started after i started driving on the freeway a few times a week, before that, it was only in town and never had a problem .any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Re: tranny leak
The gasket could indeed be causing these problem. Replace it to stop the leak and the transmission should engage properly once the fluid level is restored to normal. You might as well change the filter while you are at it because this would be the perfect time since you have to drop the pan anyway.
