Line pressure & torque converter shudder

Has anyone had any experience with increasing line pressure to stop torque converter shudder? My transmission ( 460L) has what I think is torque converter shudder and Granatelli make a module that plugs into your transmission wire harness and increasing line pressure and shift firmness. They said it would eliminate torque converter shudder. Dose this sound right and could it have any negative effects on the transmission. Thanks for any help or ideas. Dave

If I was you I would add a bottle of friction modifier to the trans. I have seen this take care of the shudder on three different trucks.

I got mine from a friend in the trans business, But I would imagine NAPA or someplace like that would have some. I will see if I can get some info for you tonight.

Re: Re: Line pressure & torque converter shudder

I also own a 1999 4 x 4 suburban with a vibration problem or shudder. It starts at about 50mph but is not steady, it comes and goes. When I step on the gas or go uphill it gets worse. I've searched on the Wb for common info for this and didn't what I found. Seems GM has problems with these tranny's. Go on this site and read. http://www.thecomplaintstation.com/c...inalrecord=14/

I haven't been able to get ahold of my buddy, But I did a search on the internet under transmission friction modifier and there are over the counter products available. There is even one that claims to be specifically for torque converter shudder.I would check online or go to your local parts store. It only costs $10.00 - $15.00 so it is worth a shot.

I used a big brand name $12. and put 6000 more miles on the Tahoe. The problems are the same, any other ideas. Dave

Turning up line pressure is what the computer does when it detects slippage to protect the trans, But I don't know if it is a solution to torque converter shudder. It may make it go away< but it may be just covering up the problem. Have you had anyone look at it ?? The other thing you could do is call a dealer service dept and play dumb and ask some questions. Sometimes they will ask the tech and sometimes they blow you off. I am not sure where else to look other than the torque converter itself. Maybe turning up the pressure elimiates the shudder, But is it hard on the trans itself ?? That is a question I am not qualified to answer. I will ask around and see if I can get any info.

Re: Line pressure & torque converter shudder

Hey I just rebuilt the tranny in my burb, it has the 700r4 which is similar to the 4l60e, pretty much the same thing both are garbage transmissions, if you want to fix the problem get a new torque converter and put the shift kit in the tranny, the kit will tell you what to do, includes things like drilling out larger holes in the pump and changing springs in the valve body, also with the shift kit comes a diagram of the check balls that will have to be changed for better performance and reliability, if you want it to work right thats what you have to do.
