Gauge Lights and Brake Lights.

Usually, when you turn the your headlights on at night, your gauges light up as do your tail lights. Well, mine have randomly stop lighting up. Im not sure if i blew a fuse, maybe crossed a wire (though i havent touched a wire) or they just need replacing. any ideas?

Re: Gauge Lights and Brake Lights.

Does it happen all the time or just sometimes?

Depends dude, you have to overload a fuse to blow it or just time getting to it.

Re: Gauge Lights and Brake Lights.

Well the only reason I ask is because if it happened once and now does it all the time I would say it's a blown fuse maybe, but if it does it sometimes and then othertimes the lights work I would rule out a fuse most definately...

Re: Gauge Lights and Brake Lights.

the tail lights dont come on when i turn my head lights on at night, neither do the gauge lights. But, when applynig the break and turn signal, they work. On the dash as well, the turn signal lights and hibeam lights still work

Re: Gauge Lights and Brake Lights.

Sounds like a switch issue. Do they work in park mode? Tried 'wiggling' the switch around?

^ I wouldnt think so, im having the SAME problem as REG here, its just like he said, lights come on but cluster doesnt, brake lights work but not the lights that just come on whenever you have your lights on. Its weird and I want to know the problem already!

Re: Gauge Lights and Brake Lights.

Rally,

In the original question, it states that the lights randomly go out.

Riddle me this: How does a fuse randomly brreak, and magically ( & randomly) repair itself to randomly break again? If there's a fuse out there that can fix it'self, buddy you better believe I'm buying some.

That said, a fuse being a circuit protection device, deos not just blow for no apperant reason. Nor will the circuit continue to operate at will at a later date with out the fuse, UNLESS 2 circuits are crossed.

I am more inclined to say with confidence, I highly doubt it's a fuse issue (in ReG's case) and a problem with the multifunction switch. Why?, becasue the tail lights and dash light are only tied together at one point, the switch, UNLESS they are the two circuits that are crossed (in the switch?) and s/b seperate fuses

And if you have the indentical problem Rally, then it would apply to your case too.

Oh.. I see what you're talking about, well mine are just OUT, weird thing is that you know how it shows what gear you're in, right? Well instead of having the old school PRND123 and a needle that goes accross mine is displayed by a light or whatever you want to call it, well whenever I start the car it doesnt show it, then the car or something forces it to turn it on. Its weird.

Re: Gauge Lights and Brake Lights.

Yeah, I think you guys have serperate issues, and if yours are out (DASH ONLY) then you have a simple fuse issue, so get off the net and go fix your ride!

I've tried dude, but its NOT only my dash lights that went out, EVERY light went out inside my car, there is NOTHING that illuminates like the little lights in the up and down button to roll up your window or whatever, my lights though come on like to see something like the one on the roof and if you open the door. So im still trying to see what it is that messed up. What happend was...

get ready to read about my stupidity btw..

Alright I was sitting at Jack in the box's drive through cause I was hungry, and I just set up this new stereo that I still had some bugs to fix up. So I was looking at it and it wasnt in fully it was like an inch or 2 out because there was this plastic part stopping it from going in, so I got my pliers and started trying to rip it off, well I touched the metal part of the pliers to the metal part of my stereo and I heard a fizz and a little pop and my lights went off. Well I got home driving without seeing my speedo which was hard to do because cops are EVERYWHERE well I got home and noticed some fuses were blown and replaced the ones that I saw and I still havent checked all of em so. dont know.

Also I setup my stereo so it would come on and off whenever my instrument lights came on, like I said still had some bugs to fix. Which was weird too because my lights like to stay on like 30 secs after you turn off the car so the CD would keep playing.

Re: Gauge Lights and Brake Lights.

Ah, you are a victim of your own creation. You need determine if you're getting power to the individual fuses in the car from the maxi in the engine compartment for starters. Didn't you say you "fixed" (and that's a loosly used word there) the stereo the other day, or did this occur on that triumphant day?
