2001 Tahoe LT tranny noises

When my truck goes from 1st to 2nd there is sometimes a chatter noise coming from the tranny area. When doing the noise if you let go the gas pedal it dissapears. There is no power loss, just the chatter, ticking noise. I checked and there is nothin loose.

Any ideas what to check?
Is this a sign that the tranny is about to die?

Please respond.

i just bought a used 2001 and it is doing the same thing. It didn't do it when we test drove it of course but only seems to do it for a short time after it is started. Not sure if it is related to tranny though - have you found out anything on yours at all?

It turns out that the A/C compressor was doing that sound. It was binding and the belt was slipping making the chatter sound. I put a remanufactured A/C and now its ok. Cost = $500 bucks
