Advice needed on Flashing Check engine light/white smoke/and major oil leak

Hello, My friend has a 96 LHS and his check engine light started to flash at him ( I know it means major engine missfire, stop the car) on top of that he has cloud of white smoke from the exhaust and major oil leak.
Also engine sputters/vibrates,missfires and lacks power

I'm suspecting blown head gasket , he had overheating issues in the past ( have been fixed though)

Tommorow I will scan his ECU and look codes.

any tips what to look for: I know that there are kits that test for coolant in oil.

please share your inputs

Thanks

Sounds to me like one of the head gaskets is history

Re: Advice needed on Flashing Check engile light/blue smoke/and major oil leak

well today i have pulled the codes from the ECU and it only threw two codes for missfire in cylinder No#5, we've pulled the spark plug and it was in decent shape , but it appreared to be fouled by some liquid brown substance that had gasoline odor to it, it wasn't pure oil, and it wasn't pure gas as well.

Also the same oily/brown substance is leaking really bad from the the Y-pipe under the car and it smells like gas under the car

There is lot of white smoke from tailpipes when at idle,

but the weirdest thing is - he had lost all of his oil and there are no visible leaks under the car.

We've switched the plugs between two cylinders and reseted the ECU, missfire is gone, but the white smoke is still there.

How do you number cylinders on this engine

do they go like this:

1 2
3 4
5 6

or

2 1
4 3
6 5

or

6 5
4 3
2 1

or

5 6
3 4
1 2

Thanks guys !!!

driver's side bank 1-3-5; passenger side bank 2-4-6. Like AWP9521 said, that head gasket is gone. You may have corrected the misfire, but if it has decreased performance, white smoke from tailpipe, and that brownish substance that smells like gasoline & oil, is the diluted oil b/c of coolant getting in it. Also, check the head, make sure it's not cracked/warped. With aluminum cylinder heads, it's real easy to warp them. If it's warped, it's done and you'll have to get a new one. Check w/ a straightedge and a feeler gauge. Clearance should be less than .001 inch all the way around the surface of the head. If not, it's a big paperweight.
