Fuel door won't stay closed (2002)

Just after filling up the tank with my 5 year old's help, he attempted to open the driver's side sliding door while the fuel door was still open. The door did not open, as per its programming by Honda. But ever since that moment, the fuel door will not remain shut. I have had to use tape to hold the fuel door closed, and this allows for the sliding door to work on that side. When I push the fuel door closed I can hear a relay type noise up front perhaps near the fuel door switch on the side of the driver's seat. But nothing works to make that fuel door stay shut.
It certainly sounds like the system needs to be "reset" but there is no instruction on how to perform a reset.
Any ideas?
