305TBI swap to 350TPI

Well i have a 305 tbi with a 700r4 i just recently bought a 350tpi with a t5. I looked in the search and couldnt find what i was looking for. so i decided to make a new topic. What im needing to know is what all does it take to swap a 350tpi with a t5 into my car... I need to know every little thing.

A whole lotta luck. The T5 isn't going to survive behind that 350. If it is a WC T5 (World Class) it can be built to withstand the 350, but that costs $$.

Do you have the wiring harness & ecm? You will need different fuel lines to run to the fuel rail, a new driveshaft, the air ducting for your air intake will change. Add a clutch master and slave cylinder, pedal, shifter, & a different neutral safety switch. That's all I can think of at the moment.

p.s. Most people here will tell you that the T5 won't hold up to a 350.

edit - didn't see morley's post

Re: 305TBI swap to 350TPI

well the guy has been running the t5 behind his 350 for about two years know and the engine and tranny ran a 13.5 before he took it out. Here is all the info the guy has given me so far like about what im getting.1991 350 L98 TPI Motor - Motor has less than 110k miles on the clock. Running condition. All stock except for a 58mm throttle body. Cap / Rotor / Wires / Plugs changed recently, NGK TR55s in the motor are still good.

1986 T-5 Transmission - Unknown number of miles. All gears work, running condition. Clutch Master and Slave, and fluid resevoir included. Included is a B&M short shifter. You will need standard pedals of you are putting this in an automatic car.

1991 ECM and Wiring Harness - Everything you need to plug in the TPI motor and transmission in to any year model Camaro or Firebird. This is the hardest part to find in one peice.

All the nuts and bolts will also be included. Basically everything you need to put a 350, 5-speed drivetrain in your car!

The car ran a 13.5 pass before being removed for a LS1 swap.

I Have a 350 swapped into my car with the T5 and the tranny is taking a beating, even snapped a trannsmission mount with the torque, its been in there about a year and a half and still functions, but its going to go eventually, and if it was my swap i wouldnt have put it in there the 1st 3 gears make noise and yea it just cant handle it.

Re: 305TBI swap to 350TPI

Sounds like you have most of what you will need. If you go through with it, be aware that it will take a LOT of time and work. Your car will probably be out of action longer than you anticipate. As for the T5, do what you want, but as others have stated, you may come to regret it. Best of luck to ya.

Re: Re: 305TBI swap to 350TPI

If the wiring harness is out of a '91, that's helpful. I forgot to mention before that you'll need to drop the fuel tank and replace the pump, as the TPI will require much higher fuel pressure.

Unless you really know what your doing, or have someone to help you that does, it's going to take a long time. Hours? If it's mostly by yourself, and you're pretty green I'd say 100+.

Sticking with the stock 700R4 tranny would save a lot of time.

Morley could do this in his sleep, and he could give you a better estimate about the time.

Re: Re: 305TBI swap to 350TPI

you could do it in a few days, and it would be much easier if you had a doner car to pull the parts out of, and to reference for the holes you will cut and locations to mount the pedal, clutch master and slave cylinder, etc.
