They say it will retain your mileage even if you swapped those parts out.

A few years ago, I thought I needed to replace the Dash panel, so what they did was they took the actual milage off of the old unit and pre-programmed the new panel with the exact same milage. Most states have laws concerning the mileage on vehicles and it is against the law to tamper with the odometer readings.
