Hi guys, new guys here. I had one previous post asking if the vehicle has a good buy. Well, I bought it and here it is. It's deffiently a work in progress. So don't luagh at it to hard. Anyway's its an 89 GT with 144000 miles. The guy was the first owner, living in Iowa the oil pan rusted through and while he was replacing that, He decided to tear the engine apart, after losing interest and paying over $800 in storage fees ($3.00 a day) He finally decided to let it go. Basically sold me the pan and pan gasket and gave me the rest. Completely dissassembled--Even left the rear drums disassembled.
. He did a good job organizing everything, and a lot of the exterior components need replacing from rust. The transmission seems fine and cluth looks good. A link for pics is posted below (If I ever figure out how to upload the pics correctly.) I'm thinking about checking the valve springs for right pressure, (120 Lbs I think) replacing if necessary, cleaning up the engine, throwing new main bearings, rod bearings, and rings on and bolting it back together. Should I go ahead and do .0020-.0030 over since im there anyways? Anything else I should replace? besides the obvious Gaskets I'm going to need. Keep in mind that I've decided not to throw $1200 at the engine for a 347 stroker.http://www.hometown.aol.com/whoeverm...age/index.html I'm trying to figure out how to upload pics to link, I'll bump thread when I get it figured out Last edited by 99DenaliMan; 04-24-2005 at 10:48 PM. |

Re: Proud new owner 89 GT
I personally wouldn't do a 347 stroker, not too many people can keep them from burning oil. If anything, a 327 or 331 stroker with a nice healthy cam.

Re: Proud new owner 89 GT
Even if the clutch looks good, consider replacing it if everything is apart now. It's so much easier than trying to squeeze a few more miles from the old one then replacing it in a year or two.

Bump, okay here's the link again. sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I have to find a more reliable web page provider. http://www.hometown.aol.com/whoeverm...age/index.html
