I was wondering if it is possible to swap a b16 or b18 motor into a new civic (2001-2002), and if you could is there a lot of modifications that needs to be done?

no not possible. when doing an engine swap you need a motor that is the same year or newer. otherwise it is illegal.

he is correct, I wouldn't really see the point in swapping a B16 into a new Civic in the first place but to further explain that it's illegal let me explain to you why it cannot be done. Basically there is nonOBD OBD1 OBD2 OBD3. Basically OBD is based on emission controls and if you want the easiest swap just stick with your OBD that is on your car. Bottom line. In cases you can go out of your OBD range but it is just giving u harder work dealing with adding O2 sensors in the such.

You should go to a engine site and e-mail them!?

Yep Hasport should be releasing their kit soon for swapping the K20 into the new civics.

hmm well if you are talking about a sedan or coupe, and the NEW civic is a 2001 model - you COULD get a 2001 integra Type R B18C and drop it in...
the NEW civic uses an engine based on a d-series ( 1.7L SOHC VTEC ) so I'd say there wouldn't be too much work involved.. if you're talking about the new Si hatchy... the only motor to swap in there is a K20 i'm afraid... or perhaps the new CRV's i-VTEC torque monster.. |

it also doesnt help that the B16 is backwards for that engine bay, sitting on the right side instead of the left

umm why not get a brand new CTR motor? Prolly pay a pretty penny for it, but if you want a swap badly...there ya go

Dont worry about the swap, i think the new civics look horrible anyways (cept the ctr...omg)...just get someone to import a ctr for ya...wait until they get like 50g km on em, then someone will be importing them, we get last gen itr's in canada imported and sold to us for like $25g...with tonne o mods on em...most companies who import parts could get the whole car if you ask nicely

First of all, pardon my ignorance. What is a K20? RSX possibly? And correct me if I am wrong but isn't the older swap only illegal if you get emissions tests done? I live in Indy and we don't have to have our cars tested so there would never be a way for them to tell. Just my $.02
