Mufflers for 97 grand am gt

I just got my first Grand Am GT at the end of june. We knew it needed at least one new muffler, but were going to replace both of them. About two weeks later, my boyfriend and I were driving to dinner, and the passanger side muffler and exhauast came off. My dad is a mechanic, so he ordered new pipes. My question is, what mufflers will fit my car beside the factory mufflers? Any suggestions?

Magnaflow and dynamax will both fit

I'd go with dynamax from what I've heard - magnaflow and dynamax are both same power, dynamax is slightly quieter. Just get them to match the pipe size. I think your pipe size is 2 or 2.25 inch if I'm not mistaken.

Pretty much any aftermarket muffler would fit your car. Check out ebay usually they have them for a pretty decent price

The only thing I'm wondering is, My passanger side muffler is about half the size of the driver side. It's only about a foot or so long... do they come that small? or should I just stick with factory? I don't want a muffler that sound like crap rice. I want an american, deep throaty sound. Will I get that with a dynomax or a flowmaster? Someone also said something about a warlock. What are your thoughts? It's a 1997, i'm not sure if I mentioned that. Thanks.

Re: Mufflers for 97 grand am gt

I had a magnaflow on my 99 and it sounded great.

The problem you will run into with mufflers is this: Everyone out there makes one that fits the driver's side of the car, but the passenger side is a hard fit, the can of the muffler is only 10 inches long. I spent 2 hours in the parts store one day trying to find a muffler to fit it, ended up going with stock mufflers from robbins auto parts. Price the mufflers for a 95 gt and a 98 gt and look at the price difference between the 2 years, and the funny part is they are exactly the same.
