How to change A/C bearing?

Hi,

1996 Century wagon with 3.1 v6 about 80k miles.
I just noticed that when I turn off the the A/C I could hear a slight noise. I removed the belt and turned the compressor pulley by hand. it feels rough and makes a slight grinding noise.

Last year I tried to change this bearing on a 1986 cavalier which was given to me. I rented a multi purpose a/c puller from Auto Zone which had several different size threads on it. They were all to big.

From looking at this Buick I know it is not the same compressor as the Chevy but does appear to have a smaller thread on the clutch, similar to the Chevy where the rented puller probably won't fit.
Is this going to be very difficult for DIY or should I just have it done?
I am not sure if I want to spend a lot on it at this time.

Thanks

with the year and the miles, it would probably be less expensive to Remove and Replace the compressor unit, and recharge the system.

if you end up messing up the clutch assembly, you've sunk a couple of hours of time and around $100. for parts, with no gaurantee you are changing the correct component.

by swapping the compressor as a whole, you are getting a comp.unit, pre-oiled, ready to be mounted, with warranty (if you buy an accumulator). so, about the same amount of time, and new unit, better for you, or resale.
