Talking fan dial problems

I need help with the dial for fan speed does not work until it is dialed to 5!! the blower/fan work it is just the speed that is the issue ,I remember there was a resistor board mentioned, the question where is the damn thing on the passenger side behind the console? I fix copiers for a living so repair is not an issue...also will this repair affect any thing else except fan speed? TIA Patricia

Re: fan dial problems

The blower resistor is under the dash on the passenger side between the firewall and blower motor. Look for the wire harness. There are some good directions posted on this site. I believe one posting may also have pictures.
The resistor is strictly used for fan control. I would definitely change it out before pursuing any other avenue.

It could also be a problem with the blower motor relay under the hood. I think there's an identical relay nearby you can swap out to test that theory. Speeds 1-4 use the relay in one position, speed 5 uses the relay in the other.
