How to check brake ware

hi guys, might be a very naive question for a lot of you, but here it is. this is for my P11 and other cars (i think this is all the same)

Would you please let me know how to check (and read) how much brake pad is left on the caliper? Is this something I can visually check by just taking off the wheels?

thanx guys.

I don't believe so, I think you have to undo the caliper and pull the pads to check how much is left. When I changed the pads on my old car I don't think i could see the pad to check, until the caliper was off. On the good side, if you were to use the same pads you shouldn't have to mess with the calipers at all, you should just be able to put the pads back in, and bolt it back together. I think... I may be way off too???
Hope this helps

Ken, on my European P10 there is a small "window" in the calipers, and you can see through it with just the wheels off. It may be different in your case, though... You can see both pads, and this is also valid for both the front and the back

Hope this helps

ales- thanx bud. I'm gonna check it out. yah, I notice that some of the cooler dealers (especially out in LA area) notes on the inpection check list after an oil change how much pad is left...like 50% or 25% ,etc. these people in the midwest don't do it... wonder why??? thought it would be like a simple as reading the remainding pad on a window like how you mentioned....

No,n no, Ken! Sorry to mislead you. I meant an openning in the caliper that lets you see through the caliper and inspect the pads... Just take the damn wheels off!

My old Accord has the same thing. Like a pinhole through the top of the caliper structure. I never dug it out myself, but in the service manual, I think it showed that there was a mark that showed when they were too worn.

cool, is that same for the 97-01 preludes?

do you have a silver S2000 for real? I was at the Honda dealer today getting my lude's coolant and oil changed. I was checking out the S2000's....they're sweet. didn't want the guys messing with my wheels, so didn't have them check for brake wear. dat's why I wanted to check out how to do it on my own. also goes for my G20 too.

Explain your usernames.

And, yes, they are sweet. Especially in Silver Stone Metallic.
