AT transmission problem!

I'm having transmission issues with my 92 Civic w/automatic tranny. If i drive it regularly then it's fine, but when you try to accelerate or floor the gas then the rpm just climbs. The manual said to check for low fluid but I've already done that and the fluid is within specs. Anyone ever delt with this kind of thing on an automatic transmission before? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Well, assuming you have what your screen name implies, it's been my experience that the SOHC trannys aren't made to handle any extra major power, unless you have the gears upgraded. After putting a JRSC on my d15b (forget the last number but it was the non-vec) 6 months later the tranny was grinding like crazy, and eventually froze up all together. It was a manual though.

Re: AT transmission problem!

NO, im not turboing this civic...It's just my daily driver so it's 100% all stock! The color of the fluid was still pinkish/red like new fluid.

I don't like the sound of the new tranny part...This car is just my daily driver so i don't want to spend too much cash into it..I just drove the car today and focused on the slipping tranny more and found out that it only slips during a hard acceleration and gear change. For example, i'll go from a stop sign with 3/4 throttle and when the tranny starts to change into 2nd gear, then 2nd gear won't engage unless i ease off the gas pedal. So if i keep my gas pedal at 3/4 throttle or more then the motor will just rev and the car won't go. Does this explain it alittle bit more?

Re: AT transmission problem!

ya, it sounds like the tranny is giving up, limp it like youre doing and start saving for a new one (or one from a used one) you could PM "E Honda" he just did a auto to manual conversion, he may still have the tranny and sell it to you.

Re: AT transmission problem!

Used Honda auto trannies aren't that expensive. I bought mine for my old civic for $150 and spent about 3 hours to swap it out with the help of a friend. Tranny shops were estimating around the $600 range for a complete tranny swap, parts and labor.
