Is the newer 2.7L V6 any good?
I was surprized to hear people complainging about the engine. I always thought Japanese engines lasted forever or something like that.
Anyways, although it will be about 6 months before I get it, Im looking at the 2004 dodge stratus with the V6 engine. Is there room for a super charger or a turbo or anything like that? If there isnt room then what other things could be done to it to help improve performance. |

Re: Is the newer 2.7L V6 any good?
Ok the 2.7 is not a japenesse motor. The 2.4 and the 3.0 litre motors in the SXT and the R/T are mitsubishi motors. the 2.7 in a dodge motor. As far as the power goes for the 2.7 it has a pretty decent pick up for it. However as far as for superchargers and turbos I have yet to find one. If you want a stratus find a R/T stratus. They have the 6G72 motor that is in the eclipse gt/gts and are pretty quick.

Hmm wow. I realise the 3.0 has more torque but I always thought HP was the thing that made a differnce. I dont know very much about cars
Well I'm actually relieved it's not a Japanese engine. I like buying things from my own country... (I was just trying to be optimistic lol) But being american explains why it sounds so good. I have never heard a 200 HP Japanese engine sound this good. http://www.forum-auto.com/fichiers/v...dodge0-100.avi |

Re: Is the newer 2.7L V6 any good?
Torque makes the car pull harder when you take off. The more torque to the quicker you will take off. Just so you know the 3.0 is a japanesse motor and it is alot quicker and more reliable that the 2.7.

Re: Is the newer 2.7L V6 any good?
Torque is converted to horsepower
This might explain it a little better of you http://auto.howstuffworks.com/question622.htm Also remember there are 2 types of horsepower each car has BHP (Base Horsepower) and WHP (Wheel Horsepower) Base Horsepower is how much horsepower a motor actually produces itself. You actually lose horsepower at the transmission. What the transmission puts out to the wheels is WHP. Here is an example: My 01 GT Eclipse has 200BHP @ 205Lbs Torque however at the wheel it only puts out 161whp.

Re: Is the newer 2.7L V6 any good?
hey, just FYI, the 2.7 IS a Japanese motor, though mostly used in Chrysler vehicles, the 2.7 was designed by Mitsubishi, ergo it's a Japenese motor.

Re: Is the newer 2.7L V6 any good?
The 2.7 is a dog. There are so many stupid design problems inherent with this engine. The oil pick up tube has too many bends in it that do not allow enough flow and capacity. The chain tensioner puts too much stress on the water pump. And the rod bearings were garbage, constantly spun and caused knocking. If you have a car with a 2.7 TRADE IT IN BEFORE YOU HAVE TO REPLACE IT.
