Ferrari combo WIP: scuderia vs challenge

I love F430 so much that I decided to build 4 of them in total, since I still wait for Fujimi scuderia and have one more challenge without any PE set I can only do two of them that I have all goods for.

Let's start, I believe most of you saw my scuderia transkit review, if not here is the link http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=904576

After cleaning of resin parts I started to chop the body of street F430. At first I must say that you have two choices, either you can take challenge as base and avoid drilling of fuel cap holes (with puttying of regulate gas tank cover) or take street one and have correct interior. In either way it is not marked anywhere on the instructions so you will have to play guess a little bit.
Sorry for not having some real progress pictures but I was so frustrated with fitting and puttying that I forgot to take pictures.
The thing is that it is really hard to make decent panel with so bumpy resin parts. It took ages to get it at least good.

Rear diffuser part should be glued to the bottom plate, of course nothing on instructions.

and now for the fun part, you must fit rear mesh before you glue or you will have big problems in the end. Mesh is a bit over sized and some additional grooving is required.

Once I laid paint over them I noticed it came out a bit rough so I sanded both of them with 6000 polishing cloth.
Paint is rosso scuderia from Zero.

Wheels are weak point of the transkit, they are impossible to clean, so they are like they are, painted with mix of alclad jet exhaust and magnesium. Challenge wheels are painted with alclad white aluminum.

Bodies are cleared with 2K clear and sanded/polished with micromesh clothes.

All in all a lot of trouble. I must say that transkit is not bad, some changes should have been made on side skirts (I lost my will) since the intakes in front of rear wheels have wrong top shape.

That's it for now. I am moving on interior and engine.

That looks awesome. The paint job is pure quality work. Thanks for showing the differences in the build-ups. Keep up the great work. Anything planned for the interior?

Nice, Sasa!

(just be careful you don't overdose on F430s! )

Re: Ferrari combo WIP: scuderia vs challenge

Thanks guys

Robert, I don't have anything special in mind for interiors, I will try to replicate texture from scuderia and texture on seats that CM missed out and Fujimi made very well.

Now I was looking at the pictures of real car and I noticed that I made mistake because of instructions.
Scuderia has normal tank cover, not racing version
Darn, lesson learned one more time, never trust instructions....never

Re: Ferrari combo WIP: scuderia vs challenge

Good thing you don't have to worry about the engine side (curb) so you can concentrate on the body shapes & interior...

i must say i like those shine on the bodies...so 2k clear is really that good!?
i'm still using can TS13 tamiya clear, any comments on that if i should make a switch!?

keep posting!

Re: Ferrari combo WIP: scuderia vs challenge

A bit of a progress.

As this build continues I am more and more unpleased with quality and accuracy of Scuderia transkit.
Yesterday I received Scuderia kit and I just made quick look at it (I will try to make a bit more detailed photo review today) and love it at first sight.

But not to bother to much.

Seats from transkit, I added heat shield foil (MFH) to recreate texture.

Seats from challenge kit are painted with primer mist coats from distance then red, then primer again and red as finish (flat red Tamiya), CM CF on the back, followed by Tamiya smoke (I got enamel Tamiya smoke and it is much better then acrylic one).

Dash boards, painted CF'ed with KA decals, still need detail painting.

Scuderia interior, looks to ...... blah, I will see what to do.

Since I don't like glasses with no tint I tried to do something by clear Gunze paints, this is first time that I try to tint windows in this way, I mixed yellow and blue, to much yellow to be frank. Not to good I must say, there is slight texture and a lot of distortion.

Challenge interior on the other hand looks quite good to me, minus belts, they look....well like they do

and engine, nothing special there, some CF, some wires and that's it.

quick mock up

That's it for now, challenge will go a side now and Scuderia comes in

Stay tuned.

Re: Ferrari combo WIP: scuderia vs challenge

i can only say...nice, nice...NICE!

i see the transkit do poses some accuracy problems...lucky thing i have no extra $$$ to buy it in the first place. blessing in disguise!?

one caution, you used metal foil for the texture padding on the seats...just make sure the primer you applied on will not 'flak' over time. i suggest you do a coat of semi-gloss or flat clear to seal all up nicely...

watching & drooling!!!

Looks great!
Why didn't you use the Fujimi edition Scuderia instead of the KA transkit?!

I couldn't wait for it and I am a bit masochistic

I will make regular Fujimi kit to just have to get some PE goodies

Re: Ferrari combo WIP: scuderia vs challenge

It's ok sasa, if not for your purchase & posting...those who are interested in this resin set will still be very tempted to know what's it's all about.

i'm one of them...

i remembered this resin set was out in the market long before the fujimi kit announcement. and if i have that extra $$$, i might end up be the one buying it...and struggling now!!! hehe...

with your skills...nothing's imperfect or impossible!

kudos!!!

Re: Ferrari combo WIP: scuderia vs challenge

Thanks Marc,

so here is quick compare between Fuji kit and transkit.

First thing that catches the eye is that all parts from transkit look much thicker then the ones from kit. Here I marked the areas with most difference.

Front bumper is more sticked out with kit like it should be but the holes (front ones) look to small compared to transkit which is more close to original in my opinion. Side vents in kit are better I would say.
side skirts, front part looks good to me, fit is not perfect so slight reshape is needed, rear part is much better in design but still looks like it should be a bit bigger.
Rear bumper again look to small (specially that huge rear net.

Now of to photos, I didn't make good ones because I had some problem with my standard camera and I took my wifes "idiot" one

Now the wheels, I can not escape the feeling that front and rear are different with real car, but let's forget that and focus on look.

Now, I know this original chrome is bad and that this is not real reference but Fujimi wheels look to have to narrow spokes, here is real think, I leave it up to you.

Now back to the build, challenge almost done, it will now wait for 2 Scuderias
I am of to summer brake so three weeks pause

Thanks for watching.
