Gas

So last week, I was driving to my friends place and all of a sudden, the car started losing power and spudering and shit, so I pulled into agas station, turned off the car and walked around and found 30$ worth of gas on the ground under my car, so I had it towed back to the garage I always go to, turns out a hose coming out the of the gas tank blew or something, anyways, so they fixed it, no more gas leak, but since then, my car stinks of gas, like ALOT, I can smell it from outside my garage! I haven't had time to bring my car back to the garage, but in the mean time, anyone know what this is? It seems to smell more at the front of the car then at the back. I took a quick look at the injectors, but it doesn't seem like they r leaking, maybe its just a tiny leak that I can't see...anyways, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Gas

well the gas lines from the fuel pump can be tricky to follow but they're black rubber lines and i think they go underneath the car but you'll probably have to take off some protective covers to find them.. its tough to say but i think there might be a leak in your fuel line. does gas leak on the ground all the time?? if not then disregard everything i just typed. if there's no leak and its just smelling like gas then you could be running rich and some of the smell might come from your exhaust manifold. my engine bay smells like gas too but it runs fine and i get fairly good mileage so it could just be another one of those 240 things...

add: the gas leak might have left residue around the leaking area which might still be there.. wait till it rains so your underneath gets nice and wet and it might go away.

Re: Gas

Well I never drive my car in the rain, lol, and I don't even have a drop of gas on the ground, even when I park for 2-3 days. So maybe I am running rich, how do I check that?

Re: Gas

i don't know then. maybe a/f gauge but there's no point in having one just to see if you're running rich

Re: Gas

And there's no point unless you get a wideband which I don't have money for right now.

Re: Gas

i have an emissions tester in my garage, but i dont think thats going to help you 3000 miles away. Call around and see if any shop has one that would let you do it for free maybe when they arent real busy..

Re: Gas

or just drive 20 minutes to any shop in ontario. its $30 at canadian tire here.

add: you'll see the ppm for all the emission products coming out of your exhaust

add another: if the guy who sold you the car lives in ontario, he should have some kind of records of emission testing within the last year. call him up and ask him about it, if not then just go get it done. it'd never hurt anyways

Re: Gas

yeah, that'll tell you if you're leaking more than it'll tell you if you're running rich, and you'll probably find more oil than gas if it was leaking. .02

Re: Gas

Well, I seem to be getting crappy gas mileage and the car seems a bit sluggish, I mean I lost by one car length to a Cavalier! I got a good launch, I shifted just over 6k with quick shifts and he still got me, I just don't think that's normal. I have RWD and an extra 15hp.

Re: Gas

when was the last oil change?? do you know what kind of oil thats in the car? cause if its synthetic then you have to stay synthetic. i'm using synthetic 5 or 10w30 since i'm starting to burn tiny bits of oil.. that may help.. either that or check your fuel filter, it could be clogging or there could be a hole. chances are there might be a small hole letting too much flow happen. if i think of anything else i'll let you know.

Re: Gas

Well I'm ganna have an oil change done this week, Mobil1 10w30 and I'll have them check everything on the car, just to see if they see anything needing changing. (I would do my own oil change, but I have no money for a jack and jack stands lol)
