Abused/Neglected Akita

I know it's been a while since I posted here, but changes in life have kept me from doing so.

Anyway, I'd like to ask you guys for some help. This is gonna be pretty long, so bear with me, or go to the cliffs notes after the quote. We rescued a dog a few weeks ago, and he needs your help. I'll post a little background story first, taken from my blog which you can read Here There's a lot more pics of him too.

Quote:
So little bit of background first -

Morning of Hurricane Ivan, we see this Akita roaming the streets. We go up to it, it's sweet as can be. He follows us to our house, we give him food and water and he doesn't leave. Turns out, the dog's owner lives on the street behind us. We tell him we have his dog and he comes to get it, but "Kita" doesn't want to go. He has to literally drag him out of out yard.

For the next few weeks, Kita gets out and comes directly over to our house, we keep giving him food and water because he's extremely skinny, the tips of his ears are completely fly bitten and covered with them too. Owner always has to come over and DRAG him away.

We hadn't seen him for months until the past month or so, he's been coming over 3-4 times a week. Like always, I give him food and water, owner has to come over and drag him away.

So now to yesterday. (this was Sept 14th)

We notice that Kita has a 1/4" to 1/2" gash all the way around his neck. I'm PISSED!! I call Animal Control to see what we can do. AC comes by to pick the dog up, we get him in the truck with no problems whatsoever. Owner comes huffin and puffin around the house with WIRE in hand, ready to drag Kita away again. He's angry. Danny asks him what happened to his neck and he COMPLAINS that the DAMN dog stretched out all his wire that he was attached too trying to get under his gazebo to get out of the sun. Big surprise, an AKITA, of which has thick ass fur wants to get out of the boiling hot sun.

Anyway, AC guy tells him to go back home and that he'll be around in a minute. He goes stomping off. AC tells us that he will not get his dog tonight. Which I am thankful for. He said that if he keeps the dog - he will be issued AT LEAST 5 tickets for animal negligence which would totall well over $500. AND he would have to take him to the Emer. Clinic immeadiatly and AC would follow him there and stay to make sure the dog gets treated. (Just to walk in the door at the E. clinic is $75. His other option, relinquish ownership of the dog and let the AC take him to the pound.

Okay, so AC comes back, after arguing with the owner and tells us that he Relinquished ownership and that Kita will be going to the Shelter. (Owners excuse was that he's all alone and that he works ong hours and can't take care of the dog - like leaving a huge bowl of food and water out for him takes a lot of time ) He also informs us that Kita will not be treated due to his age (He's 6, but looks 10) and that if want to adopt him to call the Shelter first thing in the a.m. because he could be euthanized at any time because he's basically considered a stray. I'm heartbroken. AC tells me that he'll make a note that we'll be calling first thing but couldn't give us any guarantees.

I call first thing this a.m. & talk to the manager, Candance, GREAT LADY!

She tells me that she has to keep him for at least 24 hours in case the owner changes his mind. Candance asked us if would really want this dog because he's in really bad shape His neck would would have to be treated and he's severly emaciated and she hasn't even preformed any heartworm or any other tests on him yet. I tell her I want him adn that I'll be taking him to the vet as soon as I leave the shelter with him. She tells me to call back again tomorrow morning and guarntees me that nothing will happen to him until she hears from me. So hopefully we'll be picking him up tomorrow and getting him the treatment he needs.
Basically, we adopted the sweetest dog that has been treated like trash his whole life. He has hook worms, tape worms, and heart worms. It's going to cost $700 just to treat the heartworms, and we're looking for any kind of financial/moral support. Please check out my blog for all the updates on Kita's condition, and the whole story behind this. This dog has spent six years of his life in hell. We just want to give him a few years being treated right. Thanks everybody.

Any money that is collected and exceeds the cost of just the vet bills will be donated to the Humane Society, due to the influx of animals in our area from the recent devestating hurricanes.

Thanks for reading!

First of all THANK YOU! Secondly, I have no idea how to convert monies at all, so if you can convert it that would be wonderful, or you can tell me how to do it.

Just in case people are wondering where to donate money to, click on the Kita picture and it will take you to my blog and paypal info is there or you can send it to

[email protected] <-paypal acct.

Thank you again so much!

Edit: and yes, even a dollar would help (if I got a dollar from everyone who had read it, I'd have more than enough already) But even kind words are appreciated as well!!!!!

Re: Abused/Neglected Akita

It makes me sick when people buy animals and cant take care of them. Use common fucking sense. Can i afford food? No? Then dont buy a damn animal. I usually watch Animal Cops on AP(animal planet) at night before i goto bed. I've seen the most disturbing things on there. People just need to learn how take care of a damn animal.

Im glad to see that some one is trying to make the lives of these animals better. PM me the details and ill gladly donate some money to help out.

Though I can't help financially right now(between jobs), I worked at a dog kennel for a year and a half and the people there can possibly donate since the owner is freaking rich(though stingy as hell, she loves animals), I'll show my old manager this link and see if anything can be done.

Re: Abused/Neglected Akita

No offense intended, but you guys really need to be more careful of scams. I am not saying this is real, but it sure wouldn't be very hard for me to make up a story like this.

Good luck with the dog.

Thank you for all your support guys!

As for the scams, I know there are a lot of people out there that are scam artists. It really pisses me off that those kind of people ruin it for the people who genuinely need help. But rest assured, this is definitely not a scam, as I plan on scanning every single vet bill and taking a screen capture of our payal account and pictures of any cash money or checks that we receive for Kita's vet bills. (Vet bills & medicine only - no food or supplies will bought with this money, we understand that he is our dog and just as with any other owner of a dog, the owner takes on the responsible for food and supplies) Also, if the donated amount exceeds the cost of treatment, I will also scan a receipt of the donation to the Humane Soceity. I want people to KNOW that their money is used for what it is intended for. On a side note: that's why I refuse to donate money to the Red Cross for that very reason. I donate to the Salvation Army as you can select what your donation is used for.

I totally understand people's apprehension to donate money to someone they don't know, I hope what I plan on doing will ease it some. I can take penny pics too! :P

Thank you again!

And...
