STUTTER START - SMELL GAS
Heres the truck: 1994 Full-Size Blazer 4x4 5.7L 350 TBI Automatic Trans Symptoms: Upon starting truck (easy), engine trembles/shudders for a few seconds before settling into a steady rhythm. I notice a strong smell of raw fuel immediately which disappears after a few moments. I will however, smell fuel again if I rev up the engine a few times while parked. One should be aware that this is not the first time that I've encountered fuel delivery problems. Almost one year ago, I replaced my fuel pump, fuel sending unit, fuel filter, O2 sensor, plugs, rotor, and alternator. The fuel pump and sending unit were replaced due to a complete lack of starting. The rest of the replacements came because I experienced a hesitation when accellerating quickly. Sometimes the truck would even lurch forward and almost stall during one of these hesitations. Thanks to the tips from this forum, this hesitation problem was solved by a tightening of the distributor cap (seems I must have not tightened it after replacing the rotor) as well as resetting the timing with a timing gun. Things were running fine after all this until now. The fuel problem now seems only to be present at start-up, although sometimes when i let Pedal meet Metal, i again notice a slight hesitation before the truck drops into passing gear. I'm hoping there is a reletively easy solution to this new problem and I trust that someone out there reading this knows what i am dealing with. After reading some of the replies from Blazee and BlazerLT, I look forward to hearing their thoughts on this one. Thanks for your time

Re: Shuddering Start - Smell Gas
Not being too familiar with the 5.7l may have something to do with a lack of responses. Could be leaking injectors / fuel line / regulator. Posting this in the Silverado/ suburban fourm may get you more assistance with the 5.7l engine. Good luck.

Re: Shuddering Start - Smell Gas
I just wanted to add a reply to let you know your problem isn't being ignored. As blazer94 said...most of us aren't too famailiar with 5.7 TBIs.
I don't have any experience with the 5.7 tbi so after reading your post the other day I started searching. I could not find any related TSBs. I searched a lot of other forums and visited some websites, I found a lot of people experiencing the same symptoms as you, it seems to be a very common problem. From what I could tell, no one has found a solution yet. Some of them have replaced lots of parts with no success. I don't want to make any "guesses" until after I do some more searching. |

Re: Shuddering Start - Smell Gas
Thanks guys....I've tried posting in the other forums as Blazer94 suggested but no ones replied yet. I really appreciate your help and I'm going to take a look at everything again and see if I can weed out the problem. Looking forward to hearing anything you guys come up with!
