Exclamation Ground control coil overs?

Do the Ground Control coil overs have a listed spring rate or is it just one particular set that they cary? I ask becuase im going to pair them up with the KYB AGX shocks and i want a spring rate of around 400/300.

Also where can you purchase the NEW-code AGXs, i didnt know there was something wrong with the old coded ones?

GCs come with Eibach Prokit springs, with much lower rates than what you're looking for. Exact numbers are in the Sharing Suspension Info thread at the top. There are options, though. By calling up GC you can customize which shocks to mate with and the number of spring coils (which will change your spring rate alone, but to what I'm not sure). Not to my knowledge can you otherwise select rates directly from GC. Your second option is to swap new springs in the GC perches and sell the Eibachs that you won't be using.

Old code AGXs have a longer than stock shock body, but when lowering a car you actually want a shorter than stock shock body. It's a matter of not hitting your bumpstops. The new code AGXs are shorter. I'm not sure what the actual codes are, I'd call and find out directly, then see which vendor can part match.

With those spring rates, AGXs won't last long.

Good luck

Re: Ground control coil overs?

thanx, i called Ground Control and they said they could fit custom spring rates with the coil overs, so thats a plus. I also emailed KYB about the new part number which i believe is (F)741042 and (R)741019 , these were listed on there web site as the recent numbers. I think im also gonna purchase there Boots to help keep the shock in good shape.

You made my week by actually calling and not being a pussy God bless and good luck. Let us know of any questions. I hope when people search they find this page.

Also very cool to know that they'll match desired spring rates. Very cool.

Re: Ground control coil overs?

yeah, i also read the whole suspension thread , these were just some unasnwered questions i had. The Koni yellows are a good choice but the thing is is that the rear shocks are not on car adjustable. This means that if you decide to go to the track and want to stiffen up the rear youll have to remove the rear shocks to do so (which would not be fun). THe KYBs even though not having seperate compression and rebound settings are more practical as an evey day driver setup because of the fact that there on car adjustable.

Re: Ground control coil overs?

When I bought GC coil overs standard springs like the prokits were not even listed as an option. I don't see how they would even fit on the coil over perch. You have to get standard diamter race springs, their suggested rates were 450/300 for a 2g GSX. I went with 450/325 to reduce understeer. 300 in the rear is probably right on for a FWD though.I was happy with those rates, but the rears were too much for illuminas, which is fairly typical. But it launched well enough for 1.55s on 17s, and handled great. Easy to adjust those shocks too. Traditionally you would never have put AGXs on a 2g, since they cost you one inch of precious suspension travel in the front. Alledgedly they have corrected this though. I would still recomend the GX upper mounts, at least on the front, to get another inch of travel. The difference on the circle track was very notiecable, but I have been through all this in other threads. Good luck with it.

Are you saying the GC coil over will not fit on the KYBs or are you saying they will not be able to put a stiffer spring on the GC Coilovers. THe only reason i wanted the coil overs is so i can adjust for all the wheel well that my car shows. If i didnt get the CGs what size drop would you recoment for 18" wheels. Also i have never heard of GX upper mounts, where can i get a set?

Re: Ground control coil overs?

What I'm saying is I dont think the GCs come with standard drop springs, only real race springs, which is a good thing. At least back when I was looking into things. The main reason I recomend getting coilovers like GCs is because you can choose your own rates.

I meant to say GC upper mounts, ground control. I ordered them at the same time as the coilovers, nice and easy.

GCs come with Prokits unless you mention you want otherwise. After doing my research, Kevin is right about being able to select other rates directly from GC. I bought mine used and never had that opportunity.

Any upper mounts are a good bet. Suspension travel is precious. GCs are non coaxial which over time could kill your shock life. The non coaxial argument is really bitching about small fry stuff, though; they should be fine.

GCs can fit KYBs.

The drop amount is up to you

You're right about Konis not being on car adjustable. The argument is that they don't need to be. Once they're properly dialed in, at any drop they're still good to go. If you want on car adjustability, going with another shock is necessary.
