Sign me up for the "300ZX fuel filter placebo effect" cuz it works

I got an oil change today and the guy told me that I needed to get a new fuel filter and I was like "Sweet, opportunity to upgrade" so I go get my 96 300ZX Purolator fuel filter from Pep Boys, swap it in, and instantly feel a difference especially in the lower rpm's in 1st and 2nd gears.

Pretty sure that the fuel filter made the difference, not sure if it was because my old one was bad and I just put a new one on or because it was the "super upgrade" that I did but it did make a difference. Placebo maybe, but I like to think it was the 300ZX that made the difference.

I just did it yesterday so I dont know about the gas mileage and I probably wont know cuz when I did the fuel filter upgrade I also changed my fuel hose cuz it was worn and was leaking. So by just changing the fuel hose I automatically get better gas mileage cuz Im not losing gas.

Probably cuz u already have other performance mods and a fuel filter doesnt really do much on an SR.

I think the 300zx fuel filter is just a sham. I think the performance gains are really just from replacing the old filter, which probably don't filter as well as a new one. All the 300zx fuel filter does is hold more gas in it, but it doesn't cause it to flow faster or anything. I think just replacing the old fuel filter, is where you are seeing performance gains from

Bingo, and the Z32 filter can flow less than the 240SX filter so it's not an "upgrade"

I'll stick to my stock fuel filter.

Re: Sign me up for the "300ZX fuel filter placebo effect" cuz it works

Alright, since I did the fuel filter upgrade I have been getting way better gas mileage, mostly due because I changed the fuel hose that was probably never changed. Anyways, before I used to get 250 Highway Miles and now with the fuel filter/hose I just got 340, (about 270 of which were highway miles). At first glance it doesnt look like a big deal but since I changed the hose my driver's side window has been fucking up so I've just left it up the whole time and been using the AC all the while. So from 250 Highway to 340 w/ AC is a huge difference.

So I wouldn't go say that everyone needs to get the fuel filter but definetly check ur damn fuel hose cuz most of our cars are getting old and so are the parts. If u want better gas mileage go buy a $3 hose and get way better mileage, that is of course if ur fuel hose is jacked and leaking.

Out.

leaking fuel hose could be really dangerous too...for 3$ its probably not a bad idea to just go ahead and replace it every now and then.

replacing the fuel filter will only be effective if your current one is clogged...

Yeah, I know. I honestly woulda never realized that my fuel hose was jacked if I wasnt replacing the fuel filter. Well Im sure that the hose is good for at least a year, maybe even two.
