Inside lights stay for a few minutes

Hi. I have a 96 Grand Caravan SE. Sometimes when I leave it, the inside lights stay on for a few minutes, a feautre I like. The problem is, it only does this occasionally. I know in other makes of cars there is a little light sensor that 'sees' night and then knows to leave them on. Is there something like this on the van or something else? Thanks

Re: Inside lights stay for a few minutes

I believe it depends on how long you take to exit the vehicle once you shut off the engine and remove the keys. Try this next time, turn off the car, remove the key, open the door and stay there with the door open for about 5 minutes, then close the door. Im willing to bet the light stays on for a few.

Next turn on the car, turn it off remove key and exit, I bet the lights turns off immediately

I believe it depends how you leave the vehicle after it has been driven, if I close the doors and don't lock it or if I lock it by pushing on the power lock switch on the door the lights go out immediately. If I come back a few minutes later and unlock it, close the door, lock it with the power lock switch the lights stay on for a few minutes unless I press the lock button on the remote then the lights turn off.

Talking Re: Inside lights stay for a few minutes

its a security option, if you pull on the door handle the interior lights come on as well, so you can see if someone is in the van when you getting in it in the dark !!!!

Re: Inside lights stay for a few minutes

Well my door handles must be dumb, because it doesn't do that. Maybe because it's a 96 and they didn't have that feature. It does it on our 03 Corolla that we just got yesterday, but the lights are dumb, because they don't stay on....hmm. Thanks though

Lights stay on if you lock the door with the key. If you lock it with the key twice, the lights go off. The same applies to the back door.

The lights go off after a minute or so.

If you do not want light on, lock doors from the inside central lock switch, use the remote control or lock multiple times with the key.
