Question Anybody know about this GTR?

Okay does anybody know about this F1?

McLaren F1 GTR Cesar (1995)

I found it on http://www.allsportauto.com/ and the car seems french (on a french site taken by a french photogragher at a french car show)

Does anybody know anything more about it?

Thanks,
'Segg

Yep - that is GTR #05R in it's 1995 24 Hrs of LeMans race livery. It placed 13th in that race - the last of the 5 McLarens to finish, but still better than two others which started the race but didn't cross the stripe.

#05R had 4 different liveries through it's career. You can see two in the "awesome paintjob" thread.

BTW: I know about all of the GTR's so if you have other questions feel free to ask away.

Thanks man!!

That's XP5 on the postcard - and I wanted that photo sooooo badly!! By the time it arrives on my doorstep it will have cost me about $30.00 which is ridiculous, I know... but it's simply a gorgeous shot!

I will also be making it my quest to track down the photographer and see if there is any way to get a larger version of that image printed. Being a photographer myself - I only wish I had the opportunity to take such a beautiful photo of a magnificent car.

BTW: For all of you who are clueless about what he and I are referring to, follow this link:

Now you all just have to hope I get a scanner soon so I can share a better version of that shot with you.

Additionally the intakes (NACA?) on the hood (just inside the headlamps) are in some photos and are missing in others. I understand that on some vehicles these were replaced in '96 but there are definaately two different liveries sharing almost all these details.

Thanks for the info!

As stated above, GTR #05R wore four different liveries through it's racing career. This livery would have been it's LeMans livery - I call it the Cesar/Yacco livery. Prior to this it wore the Phillipe Charriol Watches livery and following LeMans it wore the Italjet/Tuiles livery in Pink/Black, and finally it wore the Tuiles TBF livery with what I guess would be considered the serpent design. An interesting fact about this GTR was that it actually raced from 1995 through early 1997 - longer than any other 1995 F1 GTR, and all without ever having the engine rebuilt.

Here are example shots of the other liveries so you don't have to search for them if you aren't familiar:

Those ducts on the hood were for front brake cooling. Apparently they weren't very effective and were designed out of later nosepieces. All of the GTRs that went to LeMans had them during Qualifying except #01R. Here's a familiar shot of 5 of the 7 GTRs that competed:

Clickable for hires

Only two of the GTRs would keep this nosepiece for the race - #05R and GTR #07R, the blue car seen at the far left of the above photo.

The pictures you have seen of this livery that appear to be a different GTR are actually the same car, much later in life. The shots come from the Louis Vuitton Classic in 2001.

It seems that whoever owns the car now (and it may still be Jean-Luc Maury-Laribiére) has decided to refit the car with it's LeMans livery once more. The car has had the newer nosepiece since the 1996 BPR GT Season - having been replaced when the original was damaged in a crash.

GTR #07R is the only GTR that still wears the ducted nosepiece today.

Thanks Wayne - I'm glad to have the answers people are looking for, and share them when I can. As for writing the book, I really wouldn't know where to begin and there's so much more that I just don't know that I'm sure I couldn't do the true history of the cars justice.
