Re: A/C Recharge

Easiest thing in the world. Go to the auto parts store and get a can of R134a refrigerant that comes with the hose and gauge for refilling A/C systems. Ask someone at the counter if you need help finding it. Should run you around $20 depending on brand of refrigerant you buy and the size of the can. I just did mine last Friday and I paid $9.68 for a can of refrigerant (I already have the hose/gauge). As for where to fill the system, open your hood and look at the passenger side of the engine compartment. You'll see a silver colored line running to the accumulator mounted on the firewall (accumulator looks like a big fat black cigar turned on end). About midways of that line you should see a valve with a blue cap on it. Take that cap off and that's where you fill the A/C system. Just be sure to follow all the directions and precautions. Ask the auto parts sales person for help if you want. Most of them will be happy to help you fill your A/C right there in the parking lot of the parts store.

Thanks for your help! I thought the valve was where it is, i just wanted someone to tell me to double check cause the repair book i have doesnt tell you anything about the A/C system. The help you gave me is the only really helpful advice anyone had given me on this forum. If more people posted solutions to problems like yours noone would ever be confuesd. I got the A/C filled with coolant and all i have to do now is see if it works better than it did b4, i hope it does!

My A/C is reading - Low Side - at about 100 psi!! I have never recharged the 134a on this car before ('02 model SE). Though I do not think it is... I figured I would ask... Is this normal?

What is the target pressure for my model?

I thought 134a was supposed to be no greater than 45 psi...

Is there anything that could cause this ungodly gain in pressure?

The A/C system runs, and blows cool - just not cold - so I wanted to give it some more 'oomph'... I looks to me like it got too much 'oomph' already though...

When checking the pressure, be sure to have the engine running, A/C switch on Max, and the fan on high.

The pressure you list is OK if the system isn't running. If this reading is while the A/C compressor is running, you're low on refrigerant.

Re: A/C Recharge

Yeah, I figured that out last night, but didn't get a chance to post... I had the #%@& thing half clicked off max A/C (Just enough so it looked right, but wasn't...) so the fan was blowing, but the compressor wasn't running... heh... oops.
