What's up people? My name's Andrew, and recently (yesterday actually) I became interested in the Infiniti G20. I've been a fan of Nissan's for quite a bit (currently own an Accord though) and was plannin' on gettin' a '95ish Nissan 240SX and swappin' in the SR20DET when i get the money. But as i was flippin' through my new issue of Sport Compact Car, under the Ultimate Street Car Championship list, i saw a 1993 Infiniti G20. The first thing that caught my eye was that the guy swapped in an SR20DET. So at that point I became interested in them. My questions to you are:
-Would it be a wise investment to sell my Accord ('97 DX) for the G20 and swap in an SR20DET?
-Is insurance high? (i'm 16)
-Are G20s reliable?
-Are they fun to drive?
-More comfortable than a '97 Accord? (if you've rode in one)

Hi and welcome. I first became interested in the G20 back in September or so, and in Feb. I became an owner. I'll see if I can answer some of your questions...

Would it be a wise investment? I'm not sure. On the one hand you'd be getting a car that's fairly rare and rarely stolen. On the other hand, it's fairly rare and older. I don't personally know much about swapping in a turbo, but if you search these forums you can see posts from those who have.

Cheap to insure? Well, my last car was a 1991 Sentra with 186k miles. It cost me $50 something a month for full coverage. My G20 costs about $65 for full coverage. Not too shabby considering the G20 has 3 times the value. You might want to call up your ins. co., they can tell you what rates will be if you buy the car.

Are they reliable? I'll give you this as reference:

That's from Consumer Reports. Granted on an 8 yr old car little things go wrong..but that's an 8 yr old car.

Fun to drive? Well, if you get a stick-shift, yes. The G20 is somewhat renowned for its suspension and handling, but to really enjoy the car you need a manual, and that's somewhat hard to find. Power is all that's necessary and nothing more, so many on these forums have modded or swapped engines for more fun.
As for the Accord comparison, I've never been in one. I test-drove a Civic, though, and it was alright but not what I was looking for.

Welcome Andrew. The G20 will most certainly be a wise investment. As stated above the G20 is VERY reliable and fun to drive(as long as you have a manual .) As For insurance, I pay $125 for full coverage here in Texas. The G20 is just as comfy as the Accord. As for performance, the SR20DET can definately be a blast. I rode in a turbo G once as I must say, that thing was like a rocket!!! If you do a SR20DET search, you'll find a ton of info on it.


PS: Did I also mention that the G20 is much rarer than the Accord so a well-modded G20 will really standout!

Welcome Andrew!!!

The manual G20 is an absolute blast. I rarely have issues with my baby, and that's considering that she's over 10 years old now. As with any car, if it's maintained properly it will behave.
