Re: Im Buying a Camaro BUT....

If it's a rebuild from a professional it will definately outlast the engine. Thing is, that is a HELL OF A LOT OF MILES for a 2000. I bought my 97 with 145k and that was a lot.

Re: Im Buying a Camaro BUT....

Also see if that 150k is highway or city miles, because that is a LOT. Is it a z28 or v6?

Hey a 2k for 2k.

Try and get a buyer's inspection dieal at a shop for a thurough inspection and status of condition.

Aside from that, you're gettin a 5 yr old car for 2 grand, what do you have to loose?

Re: Im Buying a Camaro BUT....

A 5 year old car with 150k miles on which the trans already went.

Its definately been driven hard because my 8 year old car that now has 162k has original trans and engine in good condition.

Definately have a shop you trust look it over.

come on guys its a 2000, for $2000, it could be purple, with a leopard skin interior and still be worth that, as long as the body and interior are decent i think its work it, you could just drop a lt1 or something else in it like a... ls7

Buting a Cam

I wouldnt trust this camaro. If its only 5 years old and had a tranny swap and that many miles then something is going wrong on that car or that was a hell of a lot of road trips cross country.

Re: Im Buying a Camaro BUT....

I'm with ba.. Charlie on this one.. Even if the motor AND trans crap out, go buy new and drop them in. You're still in it for what $6k total? (That is.. with a NICE trans and new motor)

Re: Im Buying a Camaro BUT....

depending on how mechanically inclined you are, it might be worth buying. for some of us, we look at it as not a big deal to do an engine swap, but we have to remember that not all people have the nessesary tools, or even most of the basic tools to accomplish that task and they would have to pay to have the engine installed, which i promise you is not very cost effective.

If the tranny was installed by a reputable person, and came from a reputable source, youre fine, however i would have the engine tested by a dealership for any and all possible signs of damage, pressure test it, check fuel pressures and injector flows, have them pull a valve cover and check for sludge, the whole 9 yards. if it comes out solid, then id say your golden.

Yeah like I said, 2k for a motor, 2k for a new trans, 2k for the car... 6K and you're in good shape.

Re: Im Buying a Camaro BUT....

Maybe there was nothing wrong the original trans in the first place and the guy got suckered when he went for a fluid change?

Re: Im Buying a Camaro BUT....

Is this a LS1 we're talking about or a V6?

My LS1 is a '98 with 63,000 miles on it, had the A4 tranny rebuilt in Dec 03 and it hasn't given me any problems since even though I beat the hell out of it. If you're easy on the foot most of the time, no slamming it into gear, the transmission will last you longer than you think, but if you're rough on it you'll lose some gears, I think I lost second, fourth, and reverse. Thank god it was still under warranty
