2001 sunfire GT problems engine problems
ok so my friends 2001 sunfire gt died today. Prior to it dieing it had a very loud knocking sound. never was able to isolate if the knock was coming from the top or bottom end of the car. This car only has 100,000km on it. I know that he didnt change the oil for a good 30,000 and is most likely what led to the motor dieing. Im just trying to help him figure out what exactly is wrong. He said he heard something like a bang and after that the car wouldnt start..like won't even turn over now. He also mentione the engine would rev up higher then normal before shifting(auto tranny). is it possible the timing belt broke? or connecting rod? I dont know anything about sunfires as im a honda owner.
Thanks |

If it was knocking like you said and he didn't change the oil regularly I suspect that he probably threw a rod or the crank broke. He will probably need to replace the engine.

Re: 2001 sunfire GT problems engine problems
That is correct. If a rod has broken or the bearings seized up then the engine will probably not turn. Although it is possible for it to turn over with the above as long as nothing is wedged solid but it will knock loudly and probably not run for very long.
