2.8L to 305 swap??

Hey, i have an 84 camaro with a 2.8L carbrated v6. I will be replacing it with a carbrated 305 h/o. Will i have to replace the wiring? will everything bolt up and will everything work right?

AHEM......no everything will not bolt up, its gona be a bitch, u gotta mock in the motor drill holes (i welded my motor mounts in) theres always a ton of problems that need to be worked out, ull find out sooner or later, alls i can say is save up money cuz sh*t happens. 1 grand spent during my 2.8-350 swap, 3 grand spent b4 the swap, just on the motor parts mind u to do this. and it sucks, took me 5 days working 8 a.m-11 at night (long ass day) taking breaks here and there to eat. but i did a th350 swap on top of it, i did my whole interior, guages all over, shifter mounting, wiring. doing it clean takes a while. so just be patient man i know u can do it

The 305 i have is still mounted in the 81, well i have the front end of the frame with all the front end gear all the motor mounts, etc. So at least i have that to go by. The V6 needs a flywheel and starter, i found them but i need to get them off the car which would be a bitch because its sunk in the ground in the woods. If someone had a flywheel and starter for a good price i would use the v6 for awhile, but if not i have to start my swap.

Re: 2.8L to 305 swap??

was yours a 2.8L? was it carb or fuel injection...whas the 350 carbrated? Also would it be easier to take the rad or front clip off when swapping engines, or just leave it all?

Why not do a 350 swap instead of 305? 350's will produce more power and in some cases better fuel economy. you can find a 350 anywheres. thats what i would do.

Re: 2.8L to 305 swap??

I started taking the V6 out and noticed the 2 lines from the rad to the tranny i think. I don' have the 305 home yet, but does a turbo 350 tranny have the same set up as the 7004r? or will i need a different rad?

Noones probably listening but heres my opinion. I just put a carbed 350 inplace of a 2.8, first you dont have to weld anything, 82-92 camaros have holes drilled in the cross member for mostly any chevy engine. Take the motor mounts that are boltd to the xmember in your '81 out and bolt them to the xmember in the conv car, buy a chiltons it will show you what holes to use for v8's. Ditch the tranny cuz their shit. Do not run a TH400 unless you want to do some fabrication, TH350 will fit perfect use the driveline out of your '81 and buy the B&M torque arm adapter from summit, put the bracket on b4 tran goes in car, trust me. Stock shifter will work there is just no first gear, 2 is 1 3 is 2 and 4 is D/3rd get it. I just finished swapping a 350 from a 2.8. Email me if you have any questions. [email protected]
