Question 84 Continental Digital Dash

I have an 84 Conti that has been sitting for about a year. Prior to parking it, the digital speedometer cluster worked fine. Now that it's back on the road, it has issues. On starting the vehicle, the display is blank and then starts flashing. Once I start driving, the speedo flashes on and off and of course it resets to zero mph, so the first couple of miles of driving are at an unknown speed. There does not seem to be any one factor that causes the display to work correctly; ie. sometimes driving it over rough roads, sometimes 5-10 minutes after starting, and just today it worked fine on starting, but started cycling 15 minutes after driving. I thought at first it was a ground problem, but I haven't found anything obvious. If anyone has had this problem or knows exact ground wire points, I would appreciate the help.

Usually just bad connections are the culprit. You can find a tech article at lincolnsonline.com that details a fix. It is for a later model but is the same basic procedure.

Good luck and let us know how you make out.
