hi, i was just wondering how hard these are to replace, what is all involved, and about (on average) how much one would cost, the car in mind here is a 98 2200

u can get a performance one for like 100 bucks, or a stock replacement for about 150. dont quote me on those prices, just what i averaged when i searched a while ago. if you do it yourself, either 2 clamps and a hacksaw or a welder. not much to it really, but exhaust work is such a pain, pay someone 30 bucks to do it. you can probly find a little shop and ask them how much they would charge you.

You are looking at around $50-100 for a high flow performance cat. You could always go with an ebay cat but you get what you pay for. Unless its from a trustworthy person that is actually selling a magnaflow or borla. Thats just my 2 cents though.

Just had one put on my wife's '95 with 2.2 yesterday. Stock replacement was $155.00 installed.

I know its a different vehicle, but I had on replaced on a Dodge Ram for $180. If you do it yourself, you can knock a good $100 off. Not that much is involved, but I got a much neater, professional welded job buy paying a pro. I'm not much of a welder.

I got a magnaflow and i think it was around 120, but in my opinion it is one of the best brands.

cool, 2 more questions, would most muffler shops carry any of those high performance catylic converters that would work on a cavalier?? will a cavalier one work on only a cavalier or are they pretty universal, also, can a catylic converter get soo bad to the point of the engine not even being able to start?

Yeah, I would think most muffler shops would carry high flow cats. If your engine isnt starting I would start looking other places than the cat, but if its clogged bad enough, it probably could prevent the engine from starting.

The muffler shop/pipe bending guy I go to has a whole rack full of high-flo cats and if none of them fit, he can get it by the next day or 2.

I recently had 4 monolithic cats replaced on my SUV with 2 hi-flow universal Magnaflows. I had noticeable gains in Torque and horsepower. Look for a real muffler shop to do the work (Not a chain like midas etc.). Look around the shop work area for benders and raw pipe. These guys typically really know their shit and can build you a wicked system for a good price
