finding your way. . .

ok i just turned 21, im still living at home, im going to college. I have no idea what i want to do with my life. I have alot of interest i just cant pick one to do. Im currently a Criminal Justice major, but the more i think about it, the less i want to do it. I mean it seems like a fun job, but its got shitty pay and a high risk rate. So then im really good with computers. I can build them, maintane them, overclock them, format them, do almost everything you can think of to a computer. But there isnt many job opportunities in the computer repair field anymore, but i have a buddy who is going to school for a network administrator. He tells me theres alot of good paying jobs if you know your shit. So im thinking about changing my major to that. I like computers, i like money. The two seem to go together. But then i think man i really love cars, and i wish i knew more about them cause i have alot of ideas and things i would like to do with them. But for the most part i have no education what so ever in automotive. And i have no idea how big the job market is. I know i wouldnt want to do it to be a mechanic, i would want to work/own a performance shop. So i think maybe i should change my major to that.

Now ive been with my gf for 1 1/2 years. ITs pretty serious and she really wants to move in together. We both dont make that much money, combined we prolly make 2,500 dollars a month. Can 2 people live off that and still pay there bills? Would i still be able to go to school, work full time, and pay all my bills?

Then next year she goes away to school, like a hour and half away. She wants us to move in together by then, and live in a halfway point between where we currently live and her school.

And this all keeps building and building and building. . .

Re: finding your way. . .

Do what you know. Get as much education as you possible can.
Train yourself in a field where you use your mind (IT, lawyer etc) and not something where your job depends on physical abilities (mechanic, cop etc.)

It also helps to have specific skill sets, so you can tell a prospective employer exactly what you CAN do. It occurs to me that there will always be a need for people working in criminal justice, the law etc, but automotive technology may change rapidly your skills may become obsolete.

Agreed with MagicRat. I work in IT and it's a great field if you can find the right employer. Keep learning, don't put your body on the line for the sake of a buck, you only get one.

Re: finding your way. . .

The major thing i cant really say because i dont know much about any of the majors your deciding between, if nothing else just be a business major....thats what everyone and their mom does anyway, its like a general degree. Where I live $2500 a month would be plenty to move in on, hell thats more than I was making a month when me and the ex-old woman were living together and I paid for everything. Also if your thinking things are going to go somewhere then I do suggest you live with her before you decide to take the next step, i wont say the M word because it scares me.

Dont let it all get you down, just keep on keepin on and do whatever feels right at the time.

Too young to move in, seriously it sounds good but it isnt, I wouldnt do that because its a BAD idea, notice she's only your girlfriend, dont matter how long you are together it's a fragile thing that can goto hell on a dime.

Re: finding your way. . .

yeah don't move in together, at least not until you two get your shit together....then maybe you guys can worry about each other and not what's you're going to be doing later in life....less stress...
