unknown truck noise in hot weather!!!
http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=200339
I am posting in the new "older pickups" section. PLEASE offer any suggestions of what this noise is. Its driving me nuts, and I am getting tired of mechanics and autoshops saying they don't know. Hope someone else does. Thanks. MATT |

OK.
The screaming went away after I had the timing belt, waterpump, and cam seals replaced. I didn't expect that to fix the problem, and only did it for general maintenance reasons. And the problem has been go for over a month, when prior to this it was screaming everyday, all day long. But now the screaming is back. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE....any suggestions? Matt |

If it's a belt, get some spray-on belt dressing and spray only one belt. Take it for a test drive. Spray the next belt to see if that made any difference. My AC belt "churps" everytime the compressor kicks-in no matter how tight the belt is adjusted, and that's with a new belt? I just shoot the belt dressing on it occasionally and the noise goes away. At least now I know which belt is the squealer.

Its not the belts. Only makes noise when the truck is in motion. Belt noise will coinincide with acceleration, even when in park. This noise coinincides with the turn of the wheels or something else that gets engaged only when the truck is in motion. I don't have the AC belt on. And I have used belt dressing, replaced belts, etc. - Matt |

Re: Re: unknown truck noise in hot weather!!!
Turning of the wheels suggest power steering belt. I had the same thing on my 92 with no power steering. Just power assist steering. I tried belt dressing but it wasn't very successful. But one or two drops of dish washing detergent and it's( the squeel/screech) has never come back.

Re: unknown truck noise in hot weather!!!
Does your truck have the front torsion bar set up? If so, you may want to look at the rear anchor of the torsion bar. I have finally surmised that that is what is making a metal-to-metal screech on my '94. Haven't fixed yet ... tho I do have the parts.
