overheating

I just replaced my radiator in my 94 camero-V6, and now it is overheating and smoking alot. And when i stop and turn off my car, its like i can hear water boiling in my radaitor. i have no idea what to do...any suggestions?

Make sure that the hoses are good, sometimes they wont let water through or have holes in them, have you checked your thermostat as well?

i will check the hoses, and i think my dad did replace the thermostat like a year ago...but you never know with these cars!!! Also yesterday when i got home in athens driving from atl...i noticed when i turned my car off that it was smoking from under the car like in the middle towards the front...any ideas?

transmission cooling lines maybe. might have a hole in one. there should be 2 metal tubes that go from the tranny to the radiator that run by the oil pan. check em out make sure there tight.

ok...why did you replace the radiator to begin with (just looking for background info)

did you use a factory or aftermarket piece?

are your fans operating correctly??

and is your coolant level staying constant or is the level dropping like you have a leak????

the smoke you see, it sounds like you have a coolant leak and its hitting the exhaust manifolds creating the smoke/steam. where theres smoke..... theres a coolant leak.

Okay i'll tell you from personal experience, when you see smoke coming from the hood what happend in my car was that the right side of the radiator (where the cap is or if you're sitting in the car) well there was this hole punctured in the radiator, now when it got hot and water got really pressurized it shot it out through the pin sized hole and into the engine it went, making it wet and naturally it being freaking hot out came smoke. I'd look around like 88 said in all hoses that goto the radiator, also check inside for loss of coolant or water (whatever you use in your radiator) ALSO let me say that if you hear water boiling it's fine, nothing to be worried about but it boils because its water and its FREAKING HOT!

um.... boiling water isnt normal, thats called overheating. the cooling system is designed to operate under pressure to raise the boiling point of the water above 200*F if its boiling under pressure, its definatly too hot.

but i agree with the pinhole problem i had that on the heater hose on the IROC. happend on the road, suddenly green fluid started running up my windsheild, was not cool, thank goodness i wasnt in a hurry, and had a roll of duct tape

So you're saying that water boiling in the resivour isnt normal? Mine did it because I used water and I thought it was fine since my Maro was free of problems (With the cooling system) when it happend.

boiling water isn't normal. when water boils, it is turning into a gas and it is loosing it's ability to absorb heat, which is the whole purpose for it being there. this is why you add glycol, and keep it under 10-18 lbs of pressure: to keep it from boiling. Straight water is never better than 50/50 water/antifreeze. Plus water doesn't resist corrosion... there's no reason to do that to you engine.

ChipNDip, you have a coolant pressure leak somewhere, probably on the heater hose or somewhere near it. simple problem. locate it (feel for wet spots), then seal it with new hose or tighten the clamp.
