tired out LS1s?

I'm kinda shopping around for car and I took a red z28 m6 out I know it was only 74XXX miles and treated well upkept etc.

It was only the 2nd LS1 car i've driven the first being a bolt on factory freak. Huge differnce in these 2 cars.

It had tiny bit more pull then my honda that did a 13.9. It had tons more lowend but well thats a given

Do these things suffer with miles that badly? Was this just a crappy one maybe?

Anyone selling a good one for around 10K or less on east coast too?

Well all engines go differently with miles, I wouldnt think they take to the miles that badly, seems like the Maro's engine was crappy, but remember Z28s run mid 13s stock so keep looking around.

Must run pretty good because unless they got a huge problem that will mess with their hp they should be fine.

Re: tired out LS1s?

Remember, different years had different stock tunes and later models had the LS6 intake.

Also, heat and the weather affect the LS1 greatly. It dicks with the tune. Different weather conditions, and the fact that the other LS1 was a bolt-on car, it seems right.

Also newer LS1s are better than the olders ones like 98. the 02 Ls1 is superior because they kept messing with it and making it better.

Re: tired out LS1s?

All M6's have 3.42's however that vehicle probably had something wrong with it. Keep shopping

Re: tired out LS1s?

weather is far less of a concern with modern vehicles, the computer and sensors should modify the vehicles operating perameters to account for the changes. However there is aknown problem with the LS1 piston rings, if that specific car had the ring problems you may notice decreased performance, however normally its just higher oil consumption.

Re: tired out LS1s?

My client's son has a DAMN SWEET firebird for sale (not sure which year has the raised hood scoops 01 - 02? ) black interior, red / black stripes but not racing stripes, freaking cool though. I think he wants like 12,500 for it. I'd buy it if I didn't already have my maro. I think he said it's got less than 70,000 on it but I could be wrong. It was still there at lunch today.

He said his son has it all worked over, and since he has like 18 cars his son rarely drives it.

Re: tired out LS1s?

the main thing we see with the consumption is that when you check the oil level, its a quart low after only a few hundred miles.

Re: tired out LS1s?

The catch can mod for the LS1 powered cars will normally solve most of the oil consumption issues.

And weather actually plays quite the role in how the LS1 runs. It has a very picky PCM. They lose a decent amount of power if it is hot out. Nothing huge, but enough.

But like I said before, a stock LS1 compared to a bolt-on car is no comparison. The modded one will make better power throughout the powerband.

If your other car ran 13.9, and this LS1 car felt more powerful down low and about the same up top, then it seems to me that it is running strong. That would make for roughly a 13.3-13.6. Probably just a touch slower than what it ran stock.

The 98-00 cars had a slightly more aggressive stock cam over the 01-02 cars. But the 01-02 cars had the LS6 intake.
Also, some 2002 cars landed the LS6 block. Made the car slightly stronger throughout the powerband. Probably not a noticeable difference in stock cars though. Once modded, the LS6 blocked car screams.
