1998 s10 pickup drivers airbag removal
i am trying to remove the drivers airbag but i am having no luck. i removed the 2 screws behind the airbag on the cover. those 2 screws only loosened the cover. is there a special tool or are there bolts that i am unable to see that hold the airbag to the steering wheel. i have stared at this airbag for an hour but i do not see anyway to get it out.

I think these have clips in there, you have to push the clip aside to release airbag.

Alright I took a look at it and still I can't remember for sure how these are in there.Did you happen to take off the plastic around the steering column? If not take them off and this will give you a better look at it because you will be able to pull the plastic back from the wheel.

Re: 1998 s10 pickup drivers airbag removal
the cover in back of the steering wheel is one piece. i removed the 2 screws that secure it but there is no where to move it as it cant be removed because it is one piece. i tried to pry it over as much as i could but all i saw was that the airbag has 4 pins that appear to be mounted in side a plastic sleeve of some sort.

Re: 1998 s10 pickup drivers airbag removal
O.K. I remember. You need to remove the steering column plastic so that you can move the plastic on the back of the wheel enough to see the pins. Those 4 pin lookin things are what holds it in.The pins are notched and there is like a wire that goes into the notch. The wire needs pushed aside and it will release. These are a pain cause you will release one and when you try another one it will pop back in.
