The name of a part I need
Hello all and thanks again in advanced. I have decided that I would like to keep things close to stock on my Thunderbird and don't want to put in a push start button. Now I realized i have a new problem. I don't know the name of a part I need. I know the part basically connects the key and lock cylinder to the ignition switch. It has a pin in the middle so it can bend with with the tilt steering wheel. It appears the pin in there has fallen out and the rest of the plastic has started for fall apart. I believe this is happening because before I got to the car it had been left for 4 years in the sun with not even a tree for protection in central Texas. I have had to where I could still at least turn the key to start it but had to kill the battery to stop the car.
I have made a very basic diagram of what it appears to look like to me. I hope I can find out what it is call and if anyone knows where I can get it. I went to my local Autozone and they said they didn't have anything that looked like this. As always thank you for your time and help all. http://s8.photobucket.com/albums/a15...ssydiagram.jpg

Re: The name of a part I need
Take the part with you and go to a local Ford dealerparts department. They will look it up for you and if they don't have it should have by the same afternoon if you go early. They have trucks who run between dealers.
Call and ask the parts people probably know exactly what you need. Sometimes you have to prepay if they get it somewhere else. They will take a charge card over the phone. |

Re: The name of a part I need
Thanks I will try the dealer then. I have avoided it because the last few times I have called or went there with questions they always tell me they need to bring the car in and take a look at it for I think 60 bucks an hour. I hope they help this time. Once again thanks for your help.

Re: The name of a part I need
Make sure you call the parts department not the service department. I've always been treated courteously. The have microfilm and can show show you pictures so you get the correct part.

Re: The name of a part I need
Ok thanks. This really show how new I am. I really didn't know there was two different departments. Thanks again.
