Unhappy Vapor Lock???

I have been experiencing vapor lock recently. I think. It started 3 weeks ago when I added a fuel injector cleaner to my gas. Once I added a new tank of gas it went away. Now I filled the tank again, but with Shell supreme (with v-power) and I am having the problem again. It only happens when it is HOT outside, I live in south Texas so that is pretty much all of the time. Does anybody have suggestions on what I should do?

Vapor lock was common in older cars that used "suction" style fuel pumps (as opposed to newer fuel pumps that "push" the fuel from the tank). It's not too common nowadays -

I'm thinking it might be your main relay. What kind of symptoms are you getting? Does the starter turn the engine over but it doesn't catch?

That is exactly what happens. My car is kind of an older car, it is a 92 Honda Prelude.

This link was posted a short while back, apparently the main relay seems to be a common problem for 4th gen preludes (Won't start when it gets hot out, soldering isn't that great and connections seperate from the board from the heat.)

i have a 92 prelude and had the same problem a few weeks back. Its your main relay. The part is around 60 bucks new. It cost me 100 bucks to get it fixed at the shop total.

It's a common problem with all Hondas. A good way to test is spray compressed air on it - hold the compressed air can upside-down so the freon comes out (not just air). Spray the compressed air/freon directly on the relay for a few seconds then crank it up. If it starts the problem is the main relay - if it doesn't start the problem might be somewhere else (but it might still be the relay).

Re: Vapor Lock???

It has nothing to do with the cleaner. Have it checked out at Clark Knapp Honda
