Question How to adjust the iddle

Hello everyone. I have a question regarding my friend's 1998 Windstar. His car is stalling when he stops at a light or stop sign. This has been happening for awhile now, and just recently it started making a weird noise kinda like an old hydraulic motor running. The stalling is also present when he parks the van after driving it for less than five minutes. We were thinking it could be aproblem with the iddle not being set right, and I even thought it had something to do with the tranny but the car acts the same even whe it's parked. Any suggestions yo guys might have will be appreciated since his wife is going to be driving the car (with two kids) after he goes deployed to Korea with the USAF. Thanks

Re: How to adjust the iddle

Have the Idle Speed Cintrol motor checked. The idle is controlled by the computer and there is no adjustment you can do that the PCM will not try to override. Good luck, and thank her and her husband. Vietnam vet here.

Re: How to adjust the iddle

Hi
Check out the posts here for IAC (idle air control). It is the cylindrical shaped component on the top of the throttle body with an electical plug. It takes commands from the PCM to set idle. Often you can remove it and clean the two ports for some effect, or it is a simple replacement although I am not up to speed on what one costs. Spray a little carburetor cleaner on an old toothbrush and gently scrub out the ports. You can spray a bit of cleaner into the ports as well but do not saturate the unit.

Give it a try. Good luck.
