can this pose a future problem?
so my friend offered me a turbo he was gonna install on his non-turb 1g talon but instead bought a whole turbo engine.. so he sold me the turbo a td05h 18g turbo.. prob is that it had a small crack on the turbo housing itself..but it was taken to a machine shop and welded.. neways it was cheap and came with rebuild kit, 440's and nice polished FMIC. i just wanna know if u guys would install it neways? this guy is a goodfriend and he wouldnt sell me anything that would give me trouble. just wanna make sure. im about to invest into a really expensive boost controller.. and i dont wanna get that if i have to get another turbo
thanks |

Re: can this pose a future problem?
Go ahead and get it. My guess would be if you're going to use a reliable boost controller with knock sensor functions etc., and say you're boosting and your turbo gets so hot that the weld cracks and you have a turbo exhaust leak, you'll bog, run rich and have to get another turbo. I'd use some sort of wrap or heat shield over it anyway. I want to boost but I just can't rationalize spending that kind of money on my ride...

yeah thats why ima try the "junkyard" turbo setup. i dont wanna spend too much on boosting this engine neways. im jumping way ahead of myself by buying a controller and i dont have downpipe or adapter plate or even a hf manifold lol just love blowing cash on electronics.

Re: can this pose a future problem?
Only problem I can see - other than the obvious that no math at all was done - Is that there will probably be a spots on the inside where it was welded that will no longer be flush with the rest of it causing it to generate heat that those spots and possably causing the entire turbo to overheat.
