stereo problems
i am hookin up my stereo system in my car and it will cut off at a certain volume. my friend says that the head unit might have a fail-safe feature on it that it wont send all the bass to the subs so the speakers dont blow up. i was wondering if there was a way to get around that fail-safe at all or if i have to go to a audio shop to get it done. thanks for the help

Re: stereo problems
what cuts out? the deck? if it's the just the sound from the subs you probably got your amp running on too low of ohms. if it's your radio it probably a bad deck.

Re: stereo problems
Yes, yes check the way you have the subs wired. And check the ohms on the subs. Are the dual voice coil? If they are 4 or 2 ohm wire one per channel. Maybe I'm jumping ahead. I guess we should wait for the answer to perna's question

Re: stereo problems
i think that its the deck that will cut out the bass at a certain volume, i know that there has to be a way to reprogram it some how, i am a newb at stereo systems but everything is connected right i have had people check it

Re: stereo problems
the deck will actually completely stop all sounds from coming from it if it cuts out. i never heard of "reprograming" a bass level coming from your deck as a feature against blow your subs. nothing against him, but i think he's full of $#@%. the bass is cutting out because of how you have the amp/speakers wired. what kind of amp and how many subs at what ohms? i'll let you know how to wire it without cutting out.

Re: stereo problems
If you turn the volume down once the subs cutoff will they come back on. If the amp shuts them off you will have to turn the head unit off then back on to reset it. Correct me if I'm wrong perna.

Re: stereo problems
some amps will reset themselfs after you turn the volume down, but all of them should reset themselves after you turn the deck off then back on
(unless they when into protection mode because they got too hot, then you have to wait for them to cool) |

Re: stereo problems
i figured it out. during the process of the install we had unplugged all the wires to the head unit and it had reset itself. i reset the bass settings to the way that i had had it and now it is extremely fuckin loud. it will vibrate my mirror so it is facing downwards and my seats vibrate

if i were you i would add a 10 or 12 gauge wire with a 10 to 20 amp fuse to the battery + terminal, put the fuse as close to the battery as possible and hook it up to the battery + on your reciver. your reciver more powerfull than your stock one so the wire made for your stock rciver, so your after market reciver is tryingto pull too much power through that small wire made for your stock one. out of the 5 recivers ive installed for friends 2 have had that problem. chances are thats it.

Re: stereo problems
My car stereo is kinda like that. Once it goes up past 16, the whole thing shuts off and restarts. Anyone know how i can fix that. Its really annoying.
