Stuck Throttle/Accelerator on S-10 Blazer

Today while driving our 1994 S-10 Blazer. The throttle became stuck wide open. My son was driving on interstate at the time and said he didn't know what to do. By that time he had his foot on the brake and he was going 95 MPH. I quickly told him to put it in neutral and try to slow to a stop. He was able to stop safely but, it took a long while for him to get stopped and during the whole process the engine was running wide open. When I got to where my son was (about a 20 minute time period) the engine was extremely hot and the fluid in the surge tank was boiling. Eveything under the hood was too hot to touch. But, I know the throttle cable is not broken and the spring on the accelerator seems to be working.....Also the accelerator pedal feels normal. We started the engine mometarily three different times and whatever is sticking is sticking WIDE OPEN. Do any of you have any ideas what may have caused this and have any ideas on what I will need to do to fix it..........if the engine isn't already toast? Have there been any factory recalls that you know of for similar problems.. Luckily my son was on interstate and there wasn't much traffic. Also, at least he had a cool enough head to pass the exit that he wanted to get off on for fear of not being able to get stopped. If he had tried to exit when he planned there is no way that he would have ever been able to stop at the exit ramp and he and/or others would have been seriously hurt or worse............I'm afraid the engine might be toast from running wide open for so long...........Please email me if you have any suggestions.......Thank [email protected]

1.) why didn't he shut off the engine?

2.) Did you remove the intake and see if the butterfly was closing properly?

3.) have you looked for massive vacuum leaks?

Re: Stuck Throttle/Accelerator on S-10 Blazer

Just FYI, never lubricate a throttle cable. If it hangs, replace it. Had this same thing happen on a 5.2 liter V-8 Oldsmbile once, now THAT was some tense minute and a half driving until I got her pulled over. I just went and spent $20 to get the new throttle cable and strung it back on. That car carried that cable to it's death. Never had the problem resurface.
