buying 1988 Honda Civic
I am considering buying an 88 Civic Hatchback. The story goes that the car has been sitting two years. The woman that has it stopped driving it when she heard a weird noise from the wheels(wheel bearing/axle). Said she got scared. Anyway I am just wonderiing if anybody has any advice about what it might be? Also, since that car has been sitting so long what would you put in the crankcase to avoid a very dry start if and when I try to fire it up? She said that car ran fine when she stopped driving it. Thank's.

Re: buying 1988 Honda Civic
just remove the spark plug wires and turn the engine over a few times. thatll lube it up good and the car wont start that way.
id recommend changing the oil first though.

the noise might be the CV joints.

Re: buying 1988 Honda Civic
It could be the cv's but the wheel bearings would explain it too. They make a loud humming sound when they are bad. Usually when cvs go bad you hear clicks when turning. It could also be a bad alignment and the wheels are making noise rubbing the road funny.
